Culinary festival seeks ultimate foodie

It’s a dream assignment for a foodie who has culinary staying power and a way with words.

Wellington - New Zealand’s culinary capital city - has an extra tempting mega-experience in store for the winner of a search to find the ultimate Australasian foodie.

With travel, accommodation and a full 17-day schedule of culinary experiences valued at over NZ$10,000 up for grabs, Visa Wellington On a Plate (VWOAP) has launched a trans-Tasman mission to find a passionate foodie to spread the word about New Zealand’s largest and tastiest culinary festival.

The winner of ‘A Role to Dine For’ will join the festival for 17 days - living in style at the plush InterContinental Hotel while dining at large in some of the culinary capital’s finest establishments, participating in a schedule of exclusive events and blogging about the experiences. There's even a daily dry cleaning allowance to cope with any on-the-job hazards such as spills.

Daily blog

Over the past four years, VWOAP has partnered with a local writer on a daily blog featuring festival highlights and, in 2013, the festival searched New Zealand to find a lover of all things patty whose mission included eating 17 burgers in 17 days, and blogging about their ultimate burger bucket list.

However, this year's competition will be "stepping it up a notch," according to Festival Director Sarah Meikle.

The winner of the trans-Tasman search would enjoy "the most memorable foodie experience of a lifetime," she said.

Living large

Entries are open to anyone in Australia or New Zealand and the winner can bring a partner or friend with them.

"The winner will be living large for 17 days at the newly refurbished InterContinental Hotel, experiencing festival menus, events, burgers and beverages daily, all while blogging about their journey.

"The best part is you get to bring a buddy along with you," Ms Meikle said.

"Absolutely anyone can enter, just visit Visa Wellington On a Plate and tell us a bit about yourself and your tastiest culinary experience through words, imagery or video."

Total prize

The total prize is valued at over NZ$10,000 and includes:

  • return flights to Wellington
  • 17 nights’ accommodation in a brand new Club InterContinental Guest Room at the 5-star InterContinental Wellington, with full access to the hotel’s club lounge, pool, spa, sauna and gym
  • complimentary breakfast at the hotel, internet and dry-cleaning each day
  • 17 days of VWOAP experiences.

Entries close on Sunday 25 May.

The Visa Wellington On a Plate festival runs from 15 - 31 August 2014.
